What are we testing?
Can the structural full-width topper form and retain a fold in a way that behaves like loose bedding?
Why this test matters
- A topper's real-world behaviour under folding is a measurable question — not something to assume from its name or material.
- The comparison point is loose bedding, which can fold and stay folded.
Method basis
Co-sleeping.com internal protocol. We publish measured behaviour (retained overlap, recovery time) rather than an invented “infant-safe” certificate.
Planned procedure (draft protocol)
- 1Full fold: fold the topper back on itself as far as the construction permits, hold 30 s, release without assisting recovery.
- 2Record retained overlap at 1 s, 10 s and 60 s, and final condition after 5 min.
- 3Corner fold: repeat with a diagonal corner fold.
- 4Loaded fold: apply a predetermined distributed load to the folded area for 60 s, remove, record recovery at the same intervals.
- 5Durability: repeat the fold cycle 100 times, then rerun the first scenario and compare.
What will be recorded
- Maximum fold height and overlap
- Retained overlap after 1 / 10 / 60 s
- Time to full visual recovery, if achieved
- Permanent deformation after 5 min
- Cover/seam condition
