What are we testing?
Can normal or adverse loading create an exposed gap between the underlying modules on the final sleeping surface?
Why this test matters
- Gaps at the sleeping surface deserve serious attention — particularly for non-mobile infants.
- A modular substructure makes this a directly testable interface question.
Method basis
Co-sleeping.com internal protocol. Two different things are measured and reported separately: internal module separation underneath the topper, and any exposed opening at the final sleeping surface. This is an engineering test — not an “entrapment certification”.
Planned procedure (draft protocol)
- 1Record baseline: module separation, surface profile, connectors in normal installed condition.
- 2Apply 90 kg distributed load directly over a junction; repeat with 120 kg.
- 3Apply 90 kg load 250 mm to one side of the junction.
- 4Apply opposing loads on adjacent modules where physically realistic.
- 5Repeat after topper-migration cycling and repeated-load durability cycling.

- 120 kg distributed over junction
- 90 kg offset 250 mm
What will be recorded
- Separation between structural modules underneath
- Any visible/exposed gap on the final sleeping surface (with rigid scale in frame)
- Topper indentation above the junction
- Topper displacement
- Recovery after unloading
